Partridge Chanteclar

The Chantecler is a large chicken that lays respectably well and is a good meat producer. Roosters weigh around 8.5 pounds , and hens are 6.5-7.5 pounds . The breed possess yellow skin and beaks, and lay brown eggs. With plumage that lies tight against the body but has a good deal of fluff, and an exceptionally small cushion comb and wattles, the Chantecler is one of the most cold hardy chickens. It is an excellent choice for anyone wanting a productive fowl that will excel in a wintry climate. The breed is noted for being calm, gentle, and personable. Hens 2-3 years old go broody and are supberb mothers.

Dark Cornish

Their thick, compact bodies, unusually wide backs, and broad, deep breasts make for great meat qualities. The hens are nice layers brown eggs, good setters and excellent mothers. They are excellent foragers  and will forage for themselves under rough conditions. Their close fitting, rather hard textured feathers with unusual lustre and brilliance make for a very hardy bird. They are always much heavier than they look.  Roosters weigh 10 1/2 pounds, Hen 8 pounds

Black Copper Maran

Marans are generally quiet and docile bird. They are quite active, taking well to free ranging in rough terrain and are also tough and disease-resistant. Marans lay extremely dark brown/mahgony eggs and are a great dual purpose bird prized for their eggs and table qualities. They should be a big bird with a reasonable carcase weight, but its rather slow growing. This means the meat has great flavour.

Speckled Sussex

The Sussex chicken is an alert, docile breed that can adapt to any surrounding. They are comfortable in both free range (good foragers) or confined spaces. The breed sometimes goes broody with the speckled version being the most likely to do so. The sussex was bred to be a dual purpose bird and in one of the most productive breeds of poultry.  They lay large eggs that are cream to light brown in colour.  It is a good producer of meat but the speckled version is the slowest to mature. Roosters 9pounds and hens 7 pounds at maturity  The speckled sussex have a mix of mahogany and black with white tips making for a strikingly beautiful bird.

Ameraucana

The Ameraucana breed comes in a variety of colours, has a tail and sports muffs and beard in the facial area. The Ameraucana hens are sought for their ablility to lay green eggs.  The gene for green egg colour is dominant so when crossed with other breeds 50% of the resulting females retain their green egg laying abilities.  They are one of the last hens to quit laying during the winter months.  Ameraucanas are easy keepers, alert foragers and nice layers, with a sweet temperment to work with.  These birds do well in severe climates.

Blue Laced Red Wyandotte

The blue laced red Wyandottes are a dual purpose breed that lay good-sized brown eggs, with the males exceeding a weight  of 8 1/2 pounds and hen 6 pounds. Wyandottes are extremely docile and friendly poultry, they are very vocal, uttering soft clucks on a regular basis. The hens make excellent setters. Wyandottes suit both free range and confinement. This variety of Wyandotte is relatively new. The blue gene will color the chicks either light blue or dark blue or black in the lacing. in both the baby chicks and the mature birds. They are very beautiful birds.

Barnvelander

The Barnevelder is a medium heavy dual-purpose chicken laying a good number of eggs but also yielding a reasonable carcass. They are hardy birds and good foragers. They lay brown coloured eggs. They are good winter layers and have a quiet disposition. Barnvelander have double laced feathers which are quite a site to behold.

Standard Blue Cochin

Cochins are not for their massive size in appearance, profusion of soft like down in the under fluff of feathering, leg feathering, toe feathering, gentle nature and temperament.  They are easily make into pet and the hens are excellent broodies  Their skin is yellow, they lay a brown egg and make a good meat bird but are slow to mature. Roosters and 11 pounds and hens 8 1/2 pounds at maturity.

Blue, Black and White Silkie

The Silkie is named for its unique, fluffy plumage, which is said to feel like silk. They have dark blue flesh and bones, blue earlobes, and five toes on each foo. Silkies are well known for their calm, friendly temperament (most docile of poultry). Hens are also exceptionally broody and make good mothers. Though they are fair layers of cream coloured eggs themselves, they are commonly used to hatch eggs from other breeds and bird species.  Their capacity for incubation, which has been is often exploited by poultry keepers by allowing Silkies to raise the offspring of other birds. In addition to being good mothers, Silkies are universally renowned for their calm, friendly temperament. They do well in confinement, and interact very well with children.
