Shetland Rams

The Shetland is the smallest of the British breeds and it retains many of the characteristics of wild sheep. Today they are considered a primitive or "unimproved" breed. Rams usually weigh 90 to 125 pounds and ewes about 75 to 100 pounds. Rams usually have spiral horns, whereas the ewes are typically polled. They are fine-boned and their naturally short, fluke-shaped tails do not require docking.

Nier Lakes Underwood aka Sabre is a warm black in the gulmoget pattern with smirslet face. He is growthy has good conformation and his horns look to be good at this age.  He has a very nice soft fleece, facial markings are nice and clear which bodes well for spotting genetics.

Fibre Works Jester is quite the character, lively and friendly. He is a black with Hst markings. His horns look very good for his age, his body is nicely balance and he has a reasonable hand to his fleece (soft, fairly crimpy and rich black over his body).   Jester is out of Fibre Works Humour (a good fleece ewe line) and Fibre Works Internaute (best AI ram lamb last year at Fibreworks).  Internaute is a katmoget and carries the gene to modifiy colour - so his black parts look more warm brown or dark brown, rather than true black.  Jester is a smaller sized ram.

As for the boys we do not handle them much but both are quiet and will take treat from our hands. They share a pen with with our family cow Josie.

Jingelbell "Belle" is our flock guardian and hangs with the ewes and lambs.

All of our breeding stock carrry the spotting gene making for an interesting lambing season which begins in May. I will be posting pics of available lambs once lambing season begins.
